Today my girls and I moved into our house. No—correction—our HOME!
I am now sitting on our “new to us” sofa watching my girls watch a movie. I cannot begin to tell you how this makes me feel. I have yearned for this day, prayed for this day, cried for this day, and now it is overwhelming to know we are here. Sitting here–relaxing in my own living room filled with my own furniture–I feel accomplished and grounded.
Let’s back up for a moment. I would not have had this blessing had it not been for my school chum, Della, who gave me this chance. She has seen all the work I’ve done in the Getting Ahead classes to become a Certified Bridges Trainer, and she knew my girls needed a home, not just a place to live. And it was Della who called us on a Sunday evening to give us the awesome news: We were going to have a home!
I am so thankful for the opportunities the Getting Ahead classes have opened up for my family, along with the friends, mentors, and resources I have gained along the way.
So when you get to the pages of the Getting Ahead book where you begin to write down your goals and “back door” excuses, remember that all your hard work will pay off in the end.
Yes, I am being sappy, but this journey has not been easy. I never knew how strong I truly am until now. I have even had to step out of my own way a few times so that my fear wouldn’t hold me back. But look at me now: I have arrived!
