Training Prerequisites: A Framework for Understanding Poverty, Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities Contact: (800) 424-9484 | [email protected] Sustainable communities need anti-poverty efforts that start early, long before students graduate and begin working. The R Rules gives students in middle and high schools life skills to manage the present and plan for a future where everyone can live well. Your students can only benefit from assessing personal and community resources, developing future stories, and researching postsecondary education options. Aligned with High Schools That Work, GEAR UP, the American School Counselor Association Model, 21st Century Skills, and academic and vocational standards, The R Rules enables each student to design a personal plan for learning, earning, and leading.

FW399 – Maximizing Achievement Among Hispanic Students

Training Prerequisites: none Contact: (800) 424-9484 | [email protected] Too many Hispanic/Latino students are slipping through the cracks. They continue to face some of the highest dropout rates nationwide—not because of a lack of ability, but because of misunderstandings in the classroom and community. Distinct behaviors are too often misread as disrespect, disinterest, or showing off when in fact it is a reaction to assumptions between both teachers and students. This workshop takes an unflinching look at what’s really happening. It unpacks the unseen factors shaping students’ school experiences and gives educators the tools to address tough issues head-on—with clarity, confidence, and respect. “Hinting” at how to do school doesn’t work. Hope isn’t a strategy. Real change starts when conversations are safe and get honest. Participants will leave with practical strategies to connect more effectively with students and parents and build stronger pathways to success. Presenter: Ruben Perez Rubén G. Perez is a national consultant and has been working in education since 1988. Throughout his career he has worked with students in grades K–12.  His background includes general education, English language learners, curriculum development, dropout prevention, academic outreach in Section 8 housing, behavioral interventions, and organizing summits on race relations.
