Who is Daisy?

Daisy Mastroianni is a mother of four amazing kids, has been a teacher for more than 20 years, and is the owner of MindfullyU, an organization dedicated to cultivating peace in individuals and organizations through the application of mindfulness techniques based on an understanding of how our brains work and the impact our physiology has on our emotional regulation.

As a secondary teacher, Daisy’s experiences include high-performing schools in which academic pressures led to high levels of stress and anxiety, as well as schools with large numbers of students living in poverty and the impact poverty plays on students and staff. Daisy has also lived and taught in international schools overseas. These experiences have allowed her to incorporate a multicultural perspective and understanding into her work.

Whether learning to pivot and shift from negative thought patterns, or understanding the value of a simple breathing technique, or practicing living life “in the now,” Daisy is proud to have shared mindfulness and the brain science behind mindset and resiliency with thousands of individuals for more than 20 years. Daisy is excited about Emotional Poverty workshops and joining the aha! Process team in continuing this important work.

Daisy’s aha! moment

I knew this program was a perfect fit for me when at the lunch break, I didn’t want to leave! In fact, I wanted to stay after the training was done and continue to learn more from Dr. Payne. On the car ride home, I signed up for the next available workshop to become a trainer. The next day, back in my classroom, I started implementing and practicing what I had learned. The connection between the brain and behavior/emotional regulation in order to cultivate greater peace and happiness has always been an interest of mine, and more importantly, it was a perfect link connecting all areas of my life’s work.

What are Daisy’s passions?

My biggest passion in life is my family and strengthening those relationships. I also have a passion for people and especially students. I love empowering young people with knowledge that will help them better understand themselves and build stronger relationships in an effort to cultivate more peace in their own lives. I enjoy the journey of learning and growth in myself and others, and I enjoy helping people and organizations infuse a more mindful approach to work and life.

What does Daisy do for fun?

After living most of my life in Southern California, my family and I have relocated to Northern Utah. I love the outdoor activities this area has to offer! I enjoy hiking or sitting by a lake reading (anything and everything). I love floating or paddle boarding down a river or just sitting and admiring the scenery. Travel is another passion of mine, and if I’m not exploring a new part of the world, or our beautiful country, I am planning my next trip. Perhaps my favorite part of travel is getting to know people. Send me to an off-the-beaten-track hole-in-the-wall restaurant where I can meet the proprietors, and I am happy. But beyond the travel and the hikes and the cooking and the books, perhaps the thing I find most fun in life is finding the joy in every day.

What is Daisy’s favorite part of a training?

Meeting new people! I believe we all have a story, and learning from each other’s stories enriches our own lives. Sharing my personal experiences and my interest in brain science, human connection, and the power of shifting behavior is amazing, but hearing how it has helped others in their own journey is one of my most favorite things!
