Be encouraged to think creatively about community collaboration by engaging with church and public school leaders who came together to share staff to meet a pre-kindergarten literacy need in their community.
In this workshop, you will hear from and dialogue with church and school leaders about how and why they were able to overcome the church/state divide in their community by hiring a literacy liaison in an effort to improve children’s chances of transitioning out of poverty. You will also see data from the first full year of this effort.
Learning objectives include:
- Learn how the church/state divide became a unique and trusting partnership.
- Gain insight into the Pequea Valley School District’s poverty statistics and how those statistics connect to kindergarten readiness.
- Learn about the value of early literacy in an under-resourced community, as well as data to highlight the program’s effectiveness.
