Addressing the Challenges of Poverty national conference presentation spotlight
This breakout utilizes the aha! Process publication, Tactical Communication: Mastering effective interactions with citizens of diverse economic backgrounds by Jodi Pfarr, to train professionals within emergency response services to better understand the effects of generational poverty. As an example, police officers become more effective with the citizens they serve, are less stressed, and improve their officer safety skills. For those within Bridges programs as either administrators or clients, they gain an improved understanding of emergency responders as both professionals and people. The results are a safer environment for both citizens and responders.
Learning objectives include:
- Bridges participants, clients, and supporters will understand the importance of applying tactical precepts within their local emergency response agencies.
- Responders can serve with less frustration and stress, higher safety skills, and greater overall citizen satisfaction.
- There will be fewer citizen complaints based on misunderstandings and mistakes. Less escalation and more opportunities for de-escalation of conflict will mean fewer complaints.
