Forum teaches concepts to tackle poverty (02/02/2013)
The Bridges Out of Poverty initiative in Martinsville, Indiana, takes over for the people who got it started. aha! Process author Terie Dreussi-Smith helps them consider such issues as transportation, banking, and getting people to sign up for assistance. As Home Bank passed control of the organization onto a steering committee, aha! Process held a forum with the committee on how to move forward. “One of the day’s themes was that people in poverty must be invited to the table when plans are being made to tackle poverty. She said most institutions are designed by middle class people and people in those organizations view customer service through a middle class lens.” Read more…
