Description

Two years ago, Pueblo, Colorado, began building a Bridges Community with the desire to start a movement focused on new, locally based, and community-specific strategies and solutions. Using a two-generation approach to build self-sustaining families, the movement began by partnering with two local elementary schools and two Getting Ahead classes. Since then, the movement has grown to include many more community partners from diverse sectors across the community, numerous Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead classes, and a common understanding of how poverty and development intersect to create thriving families. This session will explore the successes, pitfalls, learnings, and collaborations that have led to a thriving Bridges movement in Pueblo.

Learning objectives include:

  • _ How to build Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead cohorts across multiple sectors to engage individuals in a community
  • _ How to engage community agencies to build common knowledge around Bridges constructs
  • _ How to grow and sustain a Bridges model in the community
