We see employees quitting due to a wage or hours increase and a benefits cliff. Many in the hospitality industry—we have the Radisson in Kalamazoo as a member of the Southwest Michigan ERN—the employees will say, “Don’t give me any more hours because I’ll lose my daycare benefit.” Or, “If you give me that 50-cent raise, I’m going to lose this benefit,” and that’s a negative incentive for them, and so they either quit or they ask for the raise not to happen.
