In Jeannette, Pennsylvania–one of Pittsburgh’s poorer suburbs–an experienced Bridges Out Of Poverty program has just graduated its sixth class! This local chapter has been hosting the “Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’ by World” class at the Jeannette Salvation Army since 2007, and its graduates have already been able to restructure their lives and begin escaping poverty. One graduate was co-facilitator of the past two classes, which met for two hours every Thursday. These most recent graduates spoke favorably of the program. “I can see a marked difference socially, financially and in myself as a person that is better than when I started,” said Javon Harrison. “The class gave me a better grasp on how to stop living paycheck to paycheck and start getting ahead. It was a great experience and I am telling my friends that they need to take this class.”
