Gene Krebs spent eight years in the Ohio House of Representatives, three years on a local school board, and four years as a county commissioner. Now he’s proposed a state fund that would aid rural communities and help battle opioid addiction in Ohio.
Krebs has been a research executive in an organization that studies economic development, urban revitalization, and farmland preservation. Later he was an executive in a research group that studies healthcare and human-service issues. He served on Ohio’s Joint Committee on High Technology Start-up Business, Sales Tax Holiday Study Committee (chair), and the Eminent Domain Task Force.
Krebs’ recent proposal would make funds available for only three purposes: (1) fighting addiction to opioids, including heroin, (2) increasing tax revenues with economic development and workforce development, and (3) covering general operating costs for each county that receives funds.
In recent years Krebs’ work as a policymaker and influencer has brought him in contact with Bridges Out of Poverty communities.
