With poverty a growing problem in Southern Illinois, social service agency workers and educators learned strategies Friday to help people escape poverty. Marie Goff, executive director of Cra-Wa-La Volunteers in Probation, presented at John A. Logan College a workshop based on Ruby K. Payne’s book, Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Professionals and Communities. More than 100 professionals attended the free workshop sponsored by the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children.
