Anti-Poverty Program Offers ‘More Holistic Approach’ (01/24/2014)
With a little hope, Liberty Gavin — an unemployed single mother relying on welfare — went from living day to day to having a full-time job and a 10-year career plan.Gavin credits the change to her own determination and participation in the Sharing Hope anti-poverty initiative. Ruby Payne’s “Bridges Out of Poverty” curriculum serves as a foundation for the initiative, and it has helped teach people with impoverished backgrounds discover methods to rise out of poverty and “get ahead in a just-getting-by world”.
