Why Don’t They Just Get a Job?
One couple’s mission to end poverty in their community
Author: Liane Phillips and Echo Montgomery Garrett
Putting thousands of people to work, keeping them employed, changing the local economy, improving lives— In a time when there is so much bad news out there, this is a wonderful story of success and what individuals can do to effect change in great proportion.
Why Don’t They Just Get a Job is a personal journey into the how and why Liane and Dave Phillips have been able to accomplish all this in a sustainable way by founding Cincinnati Works, a poverty-to-self-sufficiency program.
Following the model’s success, Dave Phillips is now volunteering as a consultant for similar programs in other cities. The model is a winner of the 2009 Manhattan Institute Social Entrepreneur Award.
