Removing the Mask
awarded the gold medal in the 2011 Independent Publishers Book Award
Highlands, TX--aha! Process is pleased to announce that the book Removing the Mask: How to
Identify and Develop Giftedness in Students from Poverty, by Dr. Paul Slocumb and Dr. Ruby Payne, has
been awarded the gold medal in the 2011 Independent Publishers Book Awards in the Education/Academic/Teaching
category.
In Removing the Mask, the authors maintain that environmental factors often mask giftedness in students
from poverty, making their gifted attributes unrecognizable in schools that operate by middle class's hidden
rules.
